26th May 2006 - Former Army Warrant Officer retires for second time!

David Frank Director of Hull-based Shield Security is about to hang up his Army hat - for the second time.

David first retired from the regular Army in 1996 after joining the local regiment, The 1st Battalion the Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire at the age of 15. A 25 year career saw him serve in many locations across the world.

Following his retirement from the army, David used his experience to establish Shield Security, which has since grown into one of Hull's biggest security provider.

Not content with plain clothed civilian life, David joined the Territorial Army as a member of the 3rd Battalion the Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire in 1996 and now after 10 years serving in the TA, David is about to hang up his combat boots on his 50th birthday later this month.

It is not only David who has supported the TA, but Shield as an employer has also been incredibly supportive in employing a number of TA soldiers and allowing them the time and flexibility to train and to attend long tours of duty overseas.

He explained: "Shield has been proud to support its staff who generously give their time voluntarily to the TA, especially now that the regular army relies heavily on the TA to carry out many responsibilities.

"As a company we understand the role of the TA and have tried to be supportive by giving our employees time off when required and by keeping their jobs open for them whilst they have served on tours of duty.

David's dedication to the army was recognised in 2005 when he met Tony Blair at No. 10 Downing Street to be presented with a certificate in recognition of Shield Security's support to the government and the army. David also received the prestigious Lord Lieutenant's Certificate, an honour which ranks directly below an MBE. David received the accolade for 35 years of service in both the Army and the Territorial Army.

He continued: "I have been proud to serve my country as a member of both the Army and Territorial Army however, after 35 years of service I felt it was the right time to retire."
